TOWN HALL KOKSIJDE

Town hall with offices and external space

Project description

In March 2007 the new town hall at the heart of Koksijde-on-Sea put an end to the scattering of municipal services. This ultra-modern building consists of two wings joined by a glass atrium in which an egg-shaped chamber called the “Kokpit” (with 20-metre clear internal height) rests on four asymmetrical legs. Council meetings and formal occasions are held here and can be attended by the public from a suspended balcony. The atrium opens out onto a sunken event plaza which is surrounded by wide staircases serving as amphitheatre. There are also meeting rooms and a bar called the Raadskelder, the Council Cellar.
