On 8 June, KU Leuven, together with the Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB), laid the symbolic foundation stone for the construction of Bio-Incubator 5 in the Arenberg Science Park. The cost price amounts to 12 million euros.

Bio-Incubator Leuven provides space and support for start-ups and established businesses in the biotechnology sector. Biotechnology has grown rapidly in Leuven in recent years. A new Bio-Incubator is being built to meet the enormous demand for appropriate lab and office space. The design team consists of Proof-of-the-Sum, SVR Architects, Exilab and Riessauw.

Bio-Incubator 5 will include 3,300 m² of flexible lab and office space for about 160 employees. In addition, the arrival of new companies can also create indirect employment. In this way, Bio-Incubator 5 offers great added value for the region and strengthens the regional ecosystem.

In the Arenberg Science Park, which is not accidentally located near the KU Leuven, the UZ Leuven, the VIB and the technological research centre imec, three Bio-Incubator buildings already accommodate a large number of biotech companies and the Centre for Drug Design and Discovery (CD3), which helps translate fundamental research into new medicines.
